Peter will be teaching a Yang Short form, as taught by Brian O'Dea, student of Chen Man Ching and Ou Yang Min. This form incorporates many of the moves commonly seen in classical tai ji with influences from Tibetan Qi Gong and Drunken Monkey Gong Fu. Tai Ji was traditionally thought of one of the 'Five Excellences,' or five things that an educated person should master over their life time. The forms were considered to be ways to tap into deep body wisdom to promote both healing and growth. Though commonly called a martial art in the west, the fighting aspects of tai ji are mostly geared towards how to never get into a fight; through developing ones energetic sensitivity it becomes very easy to intercept and dissolve aggression without the need of physical force. Through doing these movements daily blood, lymph and qi are circulated through the body improving organ function, increasing alertness, and slowing the aging process. If these movements are done with a clear, calm mind, they can serve as their own, and complement other meditative and spiritual growth practices.
Peter is currently offering a 'Spiritual' Self-Defense class to all who are interested. Please call the center and put your name down if this might mean you. For this class to take place, a minimum of 5 people must be pre-boked for a 1 month training. Please call the Center to sign up!
